Keen hiker Sue Anderson and her dog test out the Bike & Boot Hotel in the
Peak District. Is it the ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts and dog walkers alike?

Bike and Boot at High Peak
Derbyshire. Isn’t that the Midlands? Bleak, industrial, grey. Prepare to be amazed. Just outside of Sheffield, the Peak District National Park offers diverse walks and days out with your pooch with outstanding views and peaceful scenery to savour. If you arrive from the North, the chances are you’ve already experienced an exhilarating drive over the Snake Pass or past The Cat and Fiddle Inn. From the South, Matlock and Bakewell will have given you a taste of the hilly and winding roads that seem to be the trademark of the area. Poised perfectly to take advantage of all this natural beauty is the Bike & Boot hotel, nestled in the Hope Valley of High Peak. A new hotel, which opened in spring 2023, it’s built from local stone that doesn’t jar with the landscape it sits in. The aim, as staff told me, is to be dog friendly, not just dog tolerant. From the moment we arrived, this philosophy was in evidence – dog towels, water bowls and treats available just inside the entrance.

Great article and we only live 40 mins from the Peak District so can easily travel, but would definitely consider staying here at what looks like a truly dog welcoming establishment.
