Jenni Eley found it difficult to relax, until, that is, she, discovered these glamping pods tucked away on a farm in the glorious Rutland countryside

Woodpecker
In our busy world, we all know that finding time to rest, relax and reconnect is important but the reality is it is increasingly hard to actually do. To just pause Slow down. Take a breath. For me at least, the ability to switch off does not come easily, but then along came Rutland Rural Retreats, succeeding against the odds. I say this, as our arrival to Rutland Rural Retreats for a two-night stay was accompanied by unexpected downpours of rain. The week prior had been glorious and the week after was the kind of week when everyone says, ‘I just can’t believe how nice it is for September’. Typical. The weather was doing everything in its power to put a dampener on our glamping break. But here’s the strange thing, it didn’t. Quite the opposite, in fact it turns out that when you’re tucked away in a cosy glamping pod with your favourite human and favourite (only) dog without TV, Wi-Fi and the urge to instantly dash out to explore in the rain, relaxing comes quite easily. Even for a stranger to relaxation like me. It helps of course that owners Clare and Kirsty have created an oasis of calm at Rutland Rural Retreats. The clue is in the name. There are just three glamping units set within a four-acre meadow; two Scandinavian pods anda new Shepherd’s hut complete with a wood-fired hot tub. We stayed in one of the bespoke pods, Woodpecker. Like all three options, Woodpecker is completely dog friendly and has a spacious and fully enclosed garden, with 1m high stock fencing.
