In April, my husband Phil and I, and Goldador Daisy ventured into the depths of South Ayrshire. The drive down the South West coast was spectacular, mostly sea views and a beautiful sunset over Ailsa Craig. Ailsa Craig is a small island halfway between Scotland and Northern Ireland, where the rock for curling stones comes from, and is a prominent feature in the South West coast landscape.
We stayed at the beautifully quirky Tig Cottage just outside Ballantrae. It exudes ‘cute country cottage’ appeal on first sight, and round the back, has a beautiful garden with a river running through it, with a chair perfectly placed to soak it all in. This oasis has been kitted out with decking and garden furniture so guests can make the most of the tranquility.
We were surprised at how much bigger it was inside than we were expecting. The traditional wooden beams and doors gave a homely feel, combined with fun decor like colourful couches and bed linen. With a separate dining room, utility room, kitchen and living room downstairs, there’s plenty of living space, and two bedrooms upstairs.
